Contest events

We semi-regularly run housing, costume, and other types of contests. I wrote this post to create a vague template and set of guidelines for the creating of contest-type events.

This will be expanded upon as time passes.

Like any other event, a contest begins with the creation of a Discord channel. Some Pathfinders choose to use Raid Helper (Standard mode), and some prefer to create a post and have members react with a specific emoji to sign up. Either way, a signup or roster of some kind is necessary.

The post in the newly created Discord channel should follow our usual event structure, and include at minimum:

  • A sufficiently detailed description of the event
  • When signups open, and when they close
  • Significant dates, such as when decorating begins and ends, and when the winner(s) will be decided
  • Requirements, if any, such as DLC ownership, or other pre-signup requirements
  • A very clear explanation of the contest’s terms, such as what houses or furnishings may be used — really, anything that sets your contest apart
  • A prize list
  • A description of how the contest will be judged.

Historically, housing contests have typically been judged by a panel of several players chosen by the Pathfinder, who are not participating in the contest. Occasionally, we’ve also put up a poll so that members can vote on a “Fan Favorite,” and given an additional prize to whoever wins it. Costume contests have typically been voted on by the community. This is not to say that they need to be done the same way going forward.

I hope to post some screenshots here of example contests once we begin running some again!
